POSITION: Accountant JOB TYPE: Full Time LOCATION: Albuquerque, NM/Oak Ridge, TN
The qualified Accountant assists the Controller in preparing journal entries, general ledger account reconciliations, revenue recognition, budget tracking, and invoicing by applying a variety of accounting concepts, practices, and procedures to record, classify, and examine records of financial transactions.
Job Description
• Analysis of individual accounts to ensure data was entered correctly and costs are accounted for in the correct accounts
• Reconciliation of accounts on a regular basis to ensure critical accounts reflect the correct balance
• Coordinates with internal customers, when necessary, to obtain and verify costs
• Validates critical accounts match the expected balance and reports to Controller any variances within accounts
• Prepares journal entries to support monthly activities
• Analysis of financial data and schedules for journal entries to ensure completeness and accuracy of data
• Validates that journal entry is entered into system correctly and matches verified backup
• Performs cost and revenue budget analysis to assist in budget variances
• Validates the accuracy of the cost and revenue to aid in the decision-making process of the company
• Prepares project invoices and reconciles project costs
• Responsible for monthly preparation and processing of client billings per contract and FAR
• Assistance with project setup
• Chart of accounts management to facilitate new account setup, linking accounts to organizations, and project account groups
• Assists in the monthly close process
• Reporting state and local taxes, as required for gross receipt taxes, excise taxes, and commercial activity taxes
• Collaborates with the other finance department personnel to support overall department goals and objectives
• Supports audit requirements
• Other duties as assigned
Basic Job Requirements
• Associates degree or six (6) years’ experience in accounting or business-related field
• Three (3) years progressive experience in accounting operations to include the production of accounting reports
• Accounting, budget and cost analysis principles and theories
• Internal & External, financial-auditing practices and principles
• Generally Accepted Accounting Practices (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) and the Federal Accounting Regulation (FAR) regulations, Federal and State laws
• State Gross Receipt Taxes how applies and when it requires Gross receipts are needed to be filed
• Work with all levels of management
• Work independently and manage multiple tasks, including assignment of proper prioritization, exercise initiative and work under pressure
• Determine operational trends that are impacting cost and revenue budget analysis
• Meet deadlines
• Intermediate-level computer skills that include all the Microsoft Office Suite of software • Technical and narrative writing techniques
• Offer contingent upon results of background check and pre-employment drug test
Preferred Qualifications
• Four(4) year accounting degree
• Government accounting experience
• Deltek/CostPoint experience
