LATA POSITION: Environmental Scientist III Department: Site Environmental Compliance (Carlsbad, NM) Job description: LATA is currently searching for an Environmental Scientist III for the Site Environmental Compliance section for the project in Carlsbad, New Mexico. This is a government contract to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) supporting the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). The WIPP Site Environmental Compliance section of LATA provides environmental regulatory technical expertise on all facets of environmental compliance at the WIPP facility. The Environmental Scientist III works collaboratively with the Management & Operating Contractor, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO), New Mexico Environment Department (NMED), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), various Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) site departments, waste-disposal and analytical laboratory subcontractors, and other environmental groups within the LATA organization to ensure that Federal, State, and any local regulatory requirements are satisfied. This is a government contract to the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) supporting the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP). The WIPP Environmental Monitoring & Hydrology section of LATA provides environmental, regulatory, technical, and sampling expertise on all facets of the Environmental Monitoring Program at the WIPP facility. The qualified site Health & Safety Officer is responsible for maintaining minimum standards of health and safety on a project site to ensure that minimum standards of safety are complied. This role also may include writing or assisting in writing site specific health and safety plans. The health and safety manager work requires reporting to the management the existence of emergencies and investigating their cause, while ensuring that the workplace possesses an ideal and safe work environment to protect the health of the staff and visitors.  

The qualified Chemical/Environmental Engineer will apply technical knowledge of chemical engineering principles to support a project manager on challenging environmental remediation projects. The Chemical/ Engineer will be responsible for preparing calculations, supporting engineering designs, writing reports, overseeing construction, and executing projects within assigned scope and budget.

Process all aspects of a weekly, biweekly, multi-state payroll for the company. Prepare state tax filing and make payments in a timely manner. Ability to work closely with other team members including Finance and HR to ensure accuracy of all employee data. Analysis of all payroll data to ensure accuracy when processing payroll. This includes employee data, taxes, and employee elections and benefits. Assists in maintaining payroll records and reconciliation for general ledger and assists in reporting payroll information to Management.
