I & C Engineer
Los Alamos Technical Associates, Inc. (LATA), a provider of premier engineering and technical services with over four decades of success, has an immediate opening for an Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) Engineer in our Westerville, Ohio office.
Summary of Position The selected candidate will be a dynamic individual responsible for the development of process control systems. The development of the process control systems requires a working knowledge in many engineering disciplines. Electrical, mechanical, chemical, and civil disciplines are utilized in the development of a process control system. Designing a process control system includes calculating power load requirements, selection and design of system communication networks, instrumentation selection, control enclosure design, development of electrical schematics, and programming the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and the Human Machine Interface (HMI). The I&C engineer must also possess strong troubleshooting skills. Investigating and solving process control system faults on client sites is another responsibility of the I&C Engineer. Often the process control system faults are found to be of mechanical nature, requiring the I&C Engineer to have the troubleshooting skills for not only electrical systems but of various mechanical processes. Selection of the proper process instrumentation and proper installation methodology is also an important responsibility of the I&C Engineer. Depending on the size of the project, the I&C Engineer may be required to install the process system equipment or oversee the installation of the equipment by sub-contractors. In both cases, attention to detail and the ability to install or verify a proper installation per the process system design is an important position requirement. The I&C Engineer position requires the flexibility for extensive travel and the ability to work closely with clients to provide a successful process control system.
